gourds

February 20, 2016October 7, 2018in Around the Farm

I’m growing gourds again for hula. This time I’m growing two types -one large and one smaller. They’re doing really well with minimal bug damage which has been great. One of my gourd vines has a “Jack and the bean stock” quality to it.  It has grown over a tamarillo tree, a rose apple bush, and a mountain apple tree. They all seem to be okay with this huge vine and they in turn have provided a nice base from which the gourds hang.  I’m in the process of drying some of the gourds. The brownish looking one has been etched and dyed I’m hoping it won’t rot. Crossing my fingers on that one.  You can clearly see the size differences in the two gourds.
